Under hard braking, an unrestrained dog is thrown forward and can be seriously injured, injure passengers and interfere with driving. A cargo barrier is one of the devices that make car travel safer and more organized.
Rigid grille, net or barrier?
A rigid metal grille is the strongest and most reliable; it installs between the cargo area and the back seat. A net is lighter and more universal but withstands impact less well. Choose based on your vehicle and your dog’s size.
Installing it properly
The divider must be mounted with no play (solid anchor points, correct tension). A poorly installed grille can give way in a crash. Custom-fit models hug the cargo area better than universal ones.
A complement, not a complete solution
A divider keeps the dog from getting into the front, but doesn’t fully restrain them within the cargo area. For true restraint, combine it with a strapped-down crate or a crash-tested harness attached to an anchor point. That combination of safety + comfort is the most reliable setup.
